Most lists of the best Shopify warranty apps rank four different kinds of product in one column. A checkout upsell, a registration form, a compliance label, and a claims system all sit in the same top ten, scored on the same stars. That is why the lists are hard to use. The first decision is not which app. It is which job.

Sort by job and the answer is short. If you only need owners to register, a registration app does it. If you want revenue at checkout, a protection plan does it. If you need to run the warranty you already promised, from claim to decision, you need warranty operations software. That last category is the one most lists barely cover.

Why the rankings don’t help

The category is young and it is crowded at the shallow end. Six warranty apps launched on Shopify in 2025 and 2026. The most-reviewed genuine warranty app has about 72 reviews. Seven of the top ten apps in the warranty category by review count are shipping-protection upsells, not warranty tools.

So a ranking by review count is mostly a ranking of shipping protection. Nobody has won this category yet, and the stars don’t tell you what a product does.

The four jobs

Registration

A form where the owner records what they bought. Shopify registration apps run $9–29 a month. They collect registrations. Most stop there: forms, not workflow, and no API.

This is the right tool if registration is the whole goal. It is the wrong tool if claims are arriving and someone has to decide them.

Protection plans at checkout

A third-party contract your customer buys at checkout, usually free to you and paid for by a revenue share. Extend, Clyde and similar products sit here.

These are complementary, not competitive. They sell your customer a separate contract. They don’t run the warranty your brand already owes on its own products, and they were never meant to.

Compliance labels

Apps that generate required notices, such as the EU’s harmonized guarantee notice. Useful, narrow, and a different purchase from anything above.

Warranty operations

Coverage rules, a customer portal, and a claims workflow on one record. This is where claims get received, checked against coverage, assessed, and approved or rejected. Purpose-built claims software with public pricing starts at $549 a month. Onsite Support runs $299 a month plus $59 per agent, with no public API. Support desks such as Gorgias or Zendesk run $55–150 per agent per month and were built for tickets, not warranty state.

Which one you need

If claims are rare and you only want to know who owns what, start with registration. If you want a revenue line at checkout, add a protection plan. You can run one alongside anything else on this page.

If claims already arrive in a form, a spreadsheet, and an inbox, you need the fourth job. The signs are familiar: nobody can say what’s covered without looking it up, customers email twice for status, and the same item gets claimed twice.

Where warrantini fits

We are one of the options in the fourth category, and we’d rather say so than pretend to be a neutral judge.

warrantini is warranty operations software for brands and manufacturers. It is three working parts on one record. Coverage rules turn your warranty policy into rules the system enforces. A customer portal lets owners register a product, see what’s covered and until when, and file a claim with photos. Claims management is the workspace your team runs, where claims arrive already analyzed and your team approves or rejects.

Pricing is flat, from $49 a month. No per-claim fee, no revenue share.

Where we lose

warrantini is not a Shopify app, and it isn’t in the Shopify App Store. It connects to Shopify through a free connector, the same way it connects to Amazon, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and NetSuite. If you only buy from the App Store, and want star ratings to compare, we aren’t in that list.

If all you need is a registration form, a $9–29 app is enough. You don’t need us.

If you want a revenue share from warranty sales, we don’t do that. That is a protection plan’s job.

Five questions to ask before you install anything

Whatever category you land in, these five questions separate a tool that holds up from one you replace in a year.

  1. Does a registration resolve against a real order, or will it accept anything typed into a form?
  2. When a claim arrives, can the tool tell you whether it’s covered without someone looking it up?
  3. Where does the conversation with the customer live? On the claim, or in a separate inbox?
  4. What happens when you sell somewhere other than Shopify, such as Amazon or a retailer?
  5. Is the price flat, or does it grow with orders, claims, agents, or a percentage of sales?

A registration app answers the first question at best. A support desk answers the third. Only warranty operations software is built to answer all five.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free Shopify warranty app?

Several registration apps have free plans, and protection plans are usually free to the merchant because they earn a revenue share. Free registration is fine for collecting owners. It won’t run a claims process.

Do I need a warranty app if I already use Gorgias or Zendesk?

A support desk can hold warranty emails. It has no concept of a coverage term, a registration, or an inspection. A ticket closes. A warranty runs for years.

Can I run a protection plan and a warranty system together?

Yes. The protection plan covers the contract your customer bought at checkout. The warranty system runs the warranty your brand already promised. Plenty of brands run both.

What does warranty software for a Shopify store cost?

Registration apps run $9–29 a month. Warranty operations software ranges from $49–399 a month flat at warrantini to $549 a month and up for purpose-built claims platforms with public pricing. Enterprise warranty suites publish no pricing.

How we sorted this

We grouped products by the job they do, then compared prices where the vendor publishes one. Prices are as published by each vendor at the time of writing. Where a vendor publishes no price, we don’t state one.
